An “About Me” Thematic Lesson Plan For the 3rd Grade

Though parents provide children with an initial sense of self, the teachers and peers of school-age children contribute to the growth of their still developing self-concept. An “About Me” thematic lesson can provide third graders with a deeper sense of self as they discover more information about their background. Students’ self-esteem grows as they discover and share common histories and experiences during the project.

The Integrated Approach to Early Literacy

Integrated approaches to education take the view that instruction needs to incorporate more than simply imparting sequences of knowledge. To apply this approach to early literacy, teachers need to look not so much at what they are teaching their students but how they are teaching it. Those that believe in the integrated approach believe that this creates students who are stronger readers and writers.
